CARE & MAINTENANCE
UNDERSTANDING THE MATERIAL OF YOUR HEAVENLY MODULAR SECTIONALS
Before diving into the cleaning process, it’s essential to understand the material of your modular sectionals. Different materials require specific care methods. Each material has its unique cleaning requirements, and using the wrong cleaning method can cause damage. Therefore, it’s important to refer to Banana Furniture’s instructions or seek professional advice to determine the appropriate cleaning approach for your sectionals.
All our frames have removable washable slipcovers. Our Heavenly Performance Fabrics come with game-changing added benefits such as increased durability, stain resistance, and machine washability.
The Linen Weave Performance Fabric has the elegance of a linen fabric but with the durability and machine washability of 100% Polyester. Piling is a naturally occurring byproduct of a Linen Weave, and it’s recommended that you have an electric fabric shaver to remove any pile heads as soon as they occur. The Chenille High Pile Woven Performance Fabric has a beautiful dense weave and is ultra soft to the touch; also made with 100% Polyester, which gives it those game-changing added benefits mentioned above.
All our fabric carries a 1-year warranty against manufacturer’s defects.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
VACUUMING
Start by removing loose dirt, dust, and debris from your Heavenly Modular Sectionals. Use a soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to gently vacuum all surfaces, including cushions and crevices. This will prevent the accumulation of dirt and maintain the overall cleanliness of your sectionals.
SPOT CLEANING
Deal with spills and stains promptly to prevent them from setting into the slipcovers. Use a clean cloth or paper towel to blot the stain gently. Avoid rubbing, as it can spread the stain or push it deeper into the material.
DEALING WITH STAINS
Different stains may require specific treatment methods. For example, water-based stains can often be removed with a mild detergent or a mixture of water and vinegar. Grease or oil-based stains may require the use of a specialized stain remover. Always perform a spot test on a hidden area before applying any cleaning solution to the visible parts of your sofa.
FLIPPING AND ROTATING PILLOWS
Flip and rotate your Heavenly cushions regularly. This will distribute the pressure evenly and extend the lifespan of your furniture by using both sides.
DEEP CLEANING
In addition to regular cleaning, it’s important to deep clean your Heavenly Modular Sectionals periodically. Deep cleaning helps remove deep-seated dirt, allergens, and odors. Here’s how you can do it:
Removing slipcovers
All our frames have removable machine washable slipcovers which are fastened by way of Velcro. Simply release and turn the Velcro facing outwards from the frame to pull the slipcover from the frame. All cushions and pillows have zippers. Carefully unzip and remove the fill bag. This will allow you to wash the slipcovers separately.
Washing Performance Fabric slipcovers
All our Heavenly slipcovers can be machine-washed on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. It is essential to avoid using a dryer, as the heat can damage the fabric by causing it to shrink or become misshapen. The slipcovers should preferably be airdried.
Using interchangeable slipcovers
Consider changing your slipcovers seasonally. Greg uses white slipcovers in Spring and Summer and switches to charcoal for fall and winter. Alternatively, try using leather in the Summer and switch to a Heavenly Performance Fabric for winter. Seasonal switching will extend the life of your slipcover.
Avoiding excessive sunlight
Performance Fabrics are engineered to resist fading when exposed to sunlight, making them ideal for outdoor applications. However, prolonged exposure to excessive sunlight might cause fading to your Heavenly slipcovers. Position your modular sectionals away from direct sunlight or else use curtains or blinds to block unwarranted sunlight.
Cleaning of semi-aniline leather slipcovers
The clear top coat or lacquer of semi-aniline leather means that you can be a little braver cleaning this type of leather than when cleaning aniline leather.
- Use a water-based leather cleaner. We recommend spraying it on a sponge and working up some lather first. The leather can absorb the liquid reasonably quickly, whereas using the cleaner foam will give you more time for cleaning.
- After cleaning, wipe with a damp cloth and leave to dry naturally.
- Do not use heat, which can damage the more apparent coating and the leather.
- Condition with a leather conditioner.
- Repeat as necessary or at least every six months to a year to enjoy your leather item for as long as possible.
